The 1sts went to Warminster Town last saturday, and played their reserves in the Corsham Print Senior Cup.
Warminster had a weakened side due to call ups to their first team but on a soft and increasingly muddy pitch with frequent heavy showers, they battled hard. However, the sheer class of our passing and movement, kept creating chances. At half-time however, it was only 1-0 with the goal coming from Aaron Merryweather.
The Gaffer pointed out that despite being well on top, we hadnt finished the job and would need to maintain the quality of our play. This is exactly what happened. After 3 minutes of constant pressure, Luke Holborough scored, then within a minute he got another and 2 minutes later Aaron got his second. From this point on, it was one way traffic, with the home side unable to get the ball for any length of time, or add to their 1 first half shot at goal. As the Gaffer prepared to make changes, Aaron got his hat-trick and was replaced by club record scorer, Andy Churcher. Church promptly added 2 more goals to make it 7-0.
At this point, 1 or 2 of the home side were starting to let their frustrations show and the number 11 was cautioned for dissent. This was quickly followed by getting away with just a talking to after a very poor challenge, and then further dissent which produced a straight red. We are led to believe that the Referee's parents were indeed married!!!
So, with a minute left against 10, Nath Pritchard decided to waltz around 4 players before calmly slotting the 8th goal. This rounded off a much improved team performance. This level of performance will be required in the coming weeks though and against some stronger opposition.
