Another bad day for results.
The 1sts lost 2-3 at home v Warminster Town Res (yes, the team we beat 8-0 away 2 weeks before!). The away side were back to full strength and we had a few missing, but it really wasnt a good day at all.
Si Manifold got caught in possession (with no passing options) and this was then compounded by poor marking from the eventual cross to make it 0-1. This was quickly followed by a handling error by Webby in goal, and the player standing a yard off the line behind him (YES HE WAS OFFSIDE) made it 0-2.
After 30 minutes, we decided to play a bit and Church came close to pulling 1 back before a superb direct free-kick from Fraser Shaw-Morris reduced the deficit. This was his first for the club in his last game for a while, as he is back to University now. This was soon followed by a shove on Joner, which allowed Foz to score from the spot. 2-2 at half time.
The 2nd half started with FCCY on top but unable to score and the game becoming increasingly farcical due to the antics of the referee, which left both benches looking at each other and scratching our heads in amazement. After another shocking decision Pikey was sent off (despite him being fouled - as admitted by the Warminster player) and then with 10 minutes left a Warminster player handled in our box and they got a penalty. Yes, I dont understand that either! Anyway, that was it 2-3.
A decent game ruined by the man your not supposed to notice - 3 yellows per team and 1 red, despite there not being a single bad foul or problem. So our record of 1 yellow in 6 matches is blown to bits. Thanks.
The 2nds lost 0-3 at Chiseldon. After a bright opening 30 minutes, poor marking at a corner allowed them to take the lead. Sam Legg-Bagg, Mick Austin and Mark Nolan all had chances to level things but failed. In the 2nd half a lapse of concentration allowed the 2nd goal. This was followed by further chances being missed by Mick and Mark, and then a late 3rd goal. Even then , Mark had a great shot saved. Overall the team played well and things will get better!
The 3rds had the misfortune of a division one side in a cup game for the 2nd week running. Yet again a side of youngsters and a few old men battled hard and showed great attitude, commitment and discipline. The final score of 0-9 was a tad harsh, and didnt look likely until late on, when a few of the players ran out of steam. The team were praised (same as last week) by the Referee for their attitude and behaviour - well done guys.
